Creating a new installer node

UniCluster 4.1 requires a single management server to create the cluster called an Installer Node. UniCluster can be installed on existing RHEL, CentOS or Oracle Enterprise Linux machines however the recommended way to install UniCluster is to install a bare machine with one of the supported Linux versions.

1. Download the CentOS 5, Oracle Enterprise Linux or Red Hat Enterprise Linux media from:

2. Install CentOS 5, Oracle Enterprise Linux or Red Hat Enterprise Linux on the machine designated as the installer node

3. During Installation configure one of the network interfaces as static. The static network interface will be used for the private cluster network.

4. Disable the firewall and SELinux during installation. The installer script will re-enable the firewall.

5. Choose a name for the installer node. The installer node must not use 'localhost' as a hostname.

6. Finish the OS installation, reboot the machine, check that networking is configured properly.

If you have issues check out this page with some steps to help validate the configuration of your installer node.
